Convention Controversy

Candy
Thanks Athletes and Coaches for Support |
|
I am pleased
to announce that I have received The
Board of Review's decision. It is very encouraging
for the members of the corporation to have their right
to vote restored. It is also nice to see that the power
of United States Diving be put back in the hands of
the Board of Governors. We have all learned many things
from this situation occurring. But the most important
thing of all is that we must never forget that United
States Diving is for all the Athletes throughout the
country and the Coaches who train them. It was a long
process and would like to personally thank every coach
for their help and support along the way. I would also
like to say Thank You to the members of the Board of
Review for restoring our faith back into the corporation.

Controversy Resolved by The Board of Review |
|
The Members
of the Board of Governors have the power to control
the destiny of the sport of diving in this Country
that power is exercised by the precious right to vote.
Serious attention and consideration should therefore
be given to every proposal that is put before the Board
of Governors. When the Board of Governors enacts inconsistent
or confusing code or rule provisions, the results can
be controversial and divisive. Thank you Candace
and the Board of Review for cleaning up the mess that
we made at the 2001 Convention. more

The Board of Review's decision is in and Candace
Gottlieb, the petitioner, is very pleased with the
outcome. Candace said "it is encouraging for the
corporation to have the presidential elections restored.

IN FAVOR SAY "AYE." By:
Van Austin, former
President PDCA |
|
The (USD)
President was elected for two years when he ran unopposed
in 2000. Others had considered running, but felt it
was not worth the turmoil it would cause. They decided
to wait and to see how the last two years played out.
There was no one else to vote for so the Board of Governors
accepted him until the next election. Now, with one
fell swoop of the keyboard we are being told that we
have the same President for an additional two year term
without an election and there will be no voting for
that position at the next convention. more

Most members
of the Board of Governors discovered they had unknowingly
forfeited their right to vote in the 2002 election well
after returning home from convention. This surprising
turn of events has the potential to undo the encouraging
strides that many feel were taken at the 2001 Convention.
The most disturbing potential result of this code is
that it will expand the rift between administration,
coaches, and athletes. more

Apparently I missed something My Vote by
Barbara Parker |
|

|
With the
current interpretation, my vote last year has been
invalidated (I voted for the president to serve only
for two more years) and my vote for next year has been
taken away. I not only lost my vote during this
convention, but I will be prevented from changing leadership
if I feel that there is someone more able to lead the
organization. This not only affects me, but all of
the coaches and athletes from my Association until 2004.

Keynote
Address to US Professional Diving Coaches
by Austin |
|
My friends
we are suffering from too much politics and too little
results. In spite of the rah, rah speech you just heard
our US Diving President give and the positive speech
you just heard from Keith, I must remind you that this
is not an Amway Convention.
